Buprenorphine (Suboxone) Treatment Program
Center for Addictive Problems
Services Offered
Medication Assisted Treatment • Suboxone • Opioid Use Disorder • Substance Use
Description
Suboxone, a combination of buprenorphine with naloxone, is used as a long-term treatment for opioid addiction as an alternative to methadone maintenance for patients with a minimal addiction history. Buprenorphine helps reduce withdrawal symptoms, block drug cravings, and reduce dependence on opioid drugs. The addition of naloxone prevents intentional misuse by blocking the effects of the drug and causing immediate withdrawal when not used as directed.
Clients return to the clinic each month for a drug screening before receiving a new prescription. Substance use counseling services are available for an additional fee.

You will begin by meeting with a counselor to complete paperwork and an assessment. Then, a nurse will check your vital signs and complete lab work. Finally, you will meet with a doctor who will assess your withdrawal symptoms and determine an appropriate starting dose of medication. You must undergo a drug screening to confirm the presence of opiates in your system and test for the presence of other illicit substances (e.g., cocaine, THC, amphetamines, benzodiazepines) that may interfere with treatment. Please allow 3 hours to complete the intake process. If eligible for treatment, you will receive a prescription immediately following intake.
