Howard Brown Health Center provides mental health services specifically tailored for the LGBTQ community. Individual, couples, family, and group therapies are provided by a team of experienced counselors, social workers, and psychologists. Support groups are also available.
Specialized behavioral health programs include the Violence Recovery Program for survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence, Recovering with Pride for those with substance use disorders, and smoking cessation program.
Howard Brown Health Center partners with the VALEO Program at Chicago Lakeshore Hospital, an LGBTQ program providing 24-hour psychiatric emergency assessment and referral service at 800-888-0560.
-Howard Brown Health Center is a member of multiple mental health networks and accepts many insurance plans, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, CountyCare, Harmony, IlliniCare, Meridian, and United Healthcare.
-Sliding scale fees are available to those who qualify. Download an application in English or Spanish.
-Standard fees are as follows: $250 for intake assessment; $150 per session for individual, couples, and family therapy; and $60 per session for group therapy.

How to Apply
If you are seeking help with a substance use issue, please contact Howard Brown's Recovering With Pride program at 773-388-8891. If you are a survivor of domestic violence seeking help, call 773-388-8882 for immediate assistance.
To request mental health counseling services, please call 773-388-1600 in the morning to make an appointment for a 10-15 minute phone interview in the afternoon. If there are no appointments available that day, please call back another day.
During the call, a counselor will gather basic information about why you are seeking therapy, and what type of therapist and appointment time would best meet your needs. You will be matched with a therapist who meets your needs, or provided with referrals to alternate resources. The therapist will contact you directly to schedule an initial session. Please bring the following documentation to your first appointment:
