Structured Sober Living

Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation

Residential treatment for those who have substance use and are focused on recovery.

Services Offered

Residential Treatment • Drug Addiction • Alcohol Addiction • Chemical Dependency

Description

For patients choosing to stay at the onsite sober living home, Hazelden in Chicago provides a structured, safe living environment for men and women in early recovery from alcohol or other drug addiction. Masters level clinicians work with residents to evaluate their ability to establish a sober support network outside of treatment and work on expanding that network so that they have resources upon discharge. This program places a significant focus on transition planning as there may be barriers when transitioning back into day-to-day routine.

The residence houses up to 13 men and up to 11 women. Two to three people share a room and a bath. Amenities include a family room with a television, refrigerator, and microwave oven. Residents are given access to a business center with internet-ready computers, a daily continental breakfast, and a weekly community meal. Expectations of residents are the following:

Remain abstinent from all mood-altering substances
Attend four or more Twelve Step meetings a week
Have a sponsor
Do service work
Attend weekly community meetings
Meet with a coach/counselor regularly
Work, go to school, or volunteer full-time
