Description
Resilience, formerly Rape Victim Advocates (RVA), provides medical advocacy for survivors of sexual violence. A medical advocate acts as a liaison with healthcare professionals to ensure survivors' needs are met and they are treated with dignity and respect. Medical advocates also assist victims after the emergency room.
it is recommended that victims of sexual violence go to a hospital as soon as possible to receive medical treatment and have the opportunity to complete an evidence collection kit (often called a rape kit), which may be done up to 7 days after the assault. By law rape victims in Illinois should not be billed for medical treatment received in a hospital emergency department as a result of sexual violence
